Volunteer at Maggie's Monster
Our Monster Bike & Hikers need you!
Year on year, our Monster participants tell us that they couldn't have managed without the support of all the amazing volunteers who help out en route over the weekend. If you are thinking about volunteering please get in touch with us and we can talk through the opportunities we have available over the weekend.
We are looking for volunteers to help at Fort William during Friday 4 May and on the morning of Saturday 5 May, then along the Great Glen Way on Saturday 5 May and Sunday 6 May at Fort Augustus, Invermoriston, Altsigh, Drumnadrochit and Inverness.
If you would like more information and could possibly spare a few hours, day or weekend please download and complete the Volunteer Registration Form below and email it to Rachel at rachel.deuchar@maggiescentres.org or call her for a chat on 0141 225 0064.

Volunteer Roles and Role Profiles
Maggie’s needs around 100 people during the event to help support it.
You can help for as little or as long as you are able – we will need people from the morning of Friday 4 May through to the Bank Holiday, Monday 7 May.
Maggie's would prefer for you to arrange your own accommodation if possible. However if you are coming from afar and volunteering over the whole weekend or at an early/late shift then we can provide accommodation. Please note that accommodation through Maggie's will be in a hostel or bunkhouse.
Overview of roles available
- Direct and register people on the Friday before the event.
- Help set up and serve at the Pasta Party on the Friday night.
- Distribute bikes and goody bags to participants on Saturday morning.
- Help set up the start line – banners etc.
- Man the water stops and main checkpoints – these are at Fort Augustus, Invermoriston and Drumnadrochit – give out refreshments and encouragement!
- Marshall people at road junctions, directing them on the correct route.
- Direct people to car parks, give directions to portaloos etc.
- Picking up litter on the route.
- Helping at the finish line in Inverness - giving out medals and prizes.
- In addition, we are looking for specialist support – masseurs, people with bike maintenance/repair skills, medical professionals/physiotherapists, owners of 4-wheel drive vehicles and people with access to other resources such as trailers or large tents.
Comparison of donating
We value our volunteers’ time and commitment hugely at Maggie’s and Monster 2012 wouldn’t be the same without the amazing support and goodwill we receive. To compare what your time is worth we have come up with some examples:
- 2 friends helping to set up and serve at the pasta party on Friday night for 5 hours each would have donated the equivalent of £123.40 to Maggie’s
- If we have 15 volunteers at the bike/hike changeover at Fort Augustus volunteering for 8 hours each that is the equivalent of donating £1,480.80 to Maggie's.
