Bike hire or bringing your own bike

A limited number of hire bikes are available (350) so we will be offering them on a first come first served basis. To book one, you must complete the relevant details on the registration form and enclose your fee for your hire bike - £40.

A hired helmet will be provided with every hire bike. You must bring your own helmet if you are using your own bike to take part in the event.

The specification for the hire bikes used by Maggie’s on this event is: 24 speed front suspension mountain bikes, valued at around £300 (to give an idea of quality), 26'' x 2'' standard mountain bike inner tube is the required spare ('presta' valve although a standard inner tube this size would be fine). We do not advise participants to use hybrid bikes at Monster - a mountain bike should always be used. The bike hire company provide bikes to suit all heights, shapes and sizes so please do not worry that a bike to suit your height will not be available – it will!

At the Pasta Party on the eve of the event you will be given a wristband to identify you as having hired a bike. You then show this to the bike hire company on the Saturday morning at the Start, in order to collect your hire bike and helmet. You will return your hire bike and helmet to the hire company at the end of the cycling section in Fort Augustus.

Bringing your own bike

If you are bringing your own bike for the event (a mountain bike is recommended), you will need to make your own transportation arrangements to get your bike to the Start and your support team will be responsible for taking your bike from you at the end of the cycling section in Fort Augustus.

We also recommend that you carry a pump, inner tubes, puncture repair kit and set of alan keys. Maggie’s bike marshalls will also be equipped with these items and will be around on the cycling route to assist you at any time if need be. Remember to practice changing your inner tube prior to the event

If you are using your own bike at Monster, can we please request that you service it before the event. This will ensure you have the best possible cycling experience on the day and reduce the likelihood of any breakdown incidents.

All helmets need to be worn and remain fastened whilst riding. Failure to comply will result in disqualification from the event.

If all Maggie’s hire bikes have been taken by the time you register for Monster, you can either bring your own or hire locally to the event. Here are some suggested local bike supply companies.
