compulsory kit list
Please ensure that you and each member of your team have all the items listed on the Compulsory Kit List. Compulsory kit has been split into three sets- one for the bike section; one for the hiking section; and one for the team - all of which must be carried by each participant/team during both respective sections of the event.
Compulsory Kit List Monster 2012
Maggie's is delighted to partner with Tiso & Alpine Bikes who can offer expert advice and guidance on all aspects of the kit you need and the training you should consider for Monster. Please see their website for full details of their site locations. And don't forget to use your 10% off discount voucher you will receive on signing up for Maggie's Monster. This can be used in-store at Tiso & Alpine Bikes who will also be donating 5% of these sales (ex VAT) to Maggie's.
Each time you meet your support team (at the main checkpoints only) you can refresh your kit/change socks/clothes etc. Please note that for your safety kit checks will take place at each checkpoint to ensure that you have all the compulsory items on the Kit List. Those who do not have all these items will be asked to return to their Support Team to get the necessary items before they continue on route.
We have also included additional recommended equipment that you may find useful to have on the day.
In 2010, unseasonably low overnight temperatures were forecast for during the event. Fortunately these did not actually occur but as an additional precautionary measure (to support participants should they need assistance whilst on route during the coldest part of the night) we also asked Silver & Gold participants to bring a whistle & a survival bag as part of their kit. Both items can be purchased cheaply at any outdoor supplies shop – for around £3 - £4 each. As this cold weather was most unusual we would not expect a recurrence in 2012 but your safety during the event is our utmost concern so we will always ensure all kit needs are prepared for.
Please review weather reports in the week prior to the event and to further weather/kit information advice sent to you by Maggie’s in preparation for the event.
